When I first tried cannabis when I was 17 years old, it was fairly weak and only gave me a few effects at most.

• On the other hand, it was free and I was thankful that my friend was willing to give me a joint to smoke on my own at my house.

That wasn’t something that he needed to do, but he was nice enough to share with me at the time. By the time I got to try cannabis with a different friend later down the road, I was finally able to experience high quality, indoor-grown weed that was free of seeds and sticky with oil trichomes. It was a jarring experience because I got much higher than I ever thought possible and it scared me at first. But the entire time my body felt amazing and I had this detached feeling from reality that I couldn’t really place in my mind at the time I was experiencing it. I wish I could experience cannabis like this again, because now that I’m 30 and I’ve been smoking daily for 13 years, I have a noticeable tolerance for cannabis. My tolerance is so high that I have resorted to using cannabis concentrates instead of cannabis flower products like I was consuming in the past. Cannabis concentrates often have over 70% THC opposed to the 20% THC you find in many batches of cannabis flower buds. That’s why it’s important for new marijuana users to understand how strong cannabis concentrates are before they decide to dip their toes in the deep end for the first time.

I realize that product packaging is important for consumers, especially when it comes to properly labeling food ingredients.

Imagine being unlucky enough to have severe food allergies with absolutely no way to confirm whether or not a particular item at the grocery store is safe.

My sister relied on nut warnings to avoid getting exposed to food that could throw her into the hospital. If she picked up a random piece of food that didn’t have a nut warning on the label but contained lots of nuts, it could be a life or death situation in a matter of seconds. Those who don’t have these problems might see the warnings as trivial, but they don’t see the people whose very lives depend on those proper label warnings. When it comes to the legal cannabis market in my state, it’s regulated by my state’s Department of Health. As you’d expect, they have numerous rules and laws designating what kind of packaging and product labeling is allowed. It has gotten so extreme that you are forced to use white and opaque packaging with absolutely no translucency of any kind. That means white mylar bags, white plastic jars, and white glass jars. All text is in black only. It’s extremely boring for our cannabis market, but the one part about the packaging rules I agree with is having proper THC, CBD, and terpene percentages for the customer to see. It would be even more helpful to name the particular terpenes so the customer has an idea of what kind of strain they’re about to get before they hand over money across the counter at their favorite cannabis dispensary.

I’m happy that cannabis is legal for medical use in my state, especially since we all assumed it would still be illegal at this point. However, when we first voted on legalizing medical cannabis it wasn’t to approve all of these various restrictions that have been imposed by the state government. In fact, few of us would have ever consented to the state government having this degree of control over the cannabis program at all. I certainly didn’t realize that the state government had the broad authority to interpret any constitutional amendment in any matter that they wish, and the only repercussion we have as citizens is to sue them and take them to court over the restrictions. The law we voted on said that new licenses would be released as new patients are entered in the state registry for cannabis, but this is behind by years at this point. Despite having legal cannabis for over five years now, we have less than 30 cannabis companies in the entire state. To me, this is unacceptable. There aren’t enough cannabis products sitting in dispensaries in this state to match the demand of dispensaries’ customers. Cannabis flower products and edibles especially get sold out early after the new products are delivered to the various dispensaries throughout the state. Since customers are often given text updates by dispensaries on new cannabis product drops, they’ll amass on the store in a matter of hours after the new products are finally delivered. If you’re not quick, you’ll be left disappointed like so many are who don’t think to make online orders before leaving their homes to wait in line at the local cannabis dispensary.

My first job in high school was washing dishes in the kitchen at a large assisted living facility down the street from my house. Oddly enough, my best friend’s dad was a chef at this nursing home and put in a good word for me with the kitchen manager. While it was far from glamorous work, it gave me a good work ethic and a chance to earn money for myself in high school. I saved up for an Ipod back in the day, and even a guitar at one point as well. This job was great for helping me with my personal problems at school as well because I met a handful of kids there that were my same age and attended the exact same high school as I did. Back then I was drug tested several times, once before I was hired, and twice at random intervals during my time working in the kitchen. However, I had a friend of mine who washed dishes with me back then and he got busted for smoking pot when he was randomly tested at work one night. None of us were surprised when he lost his job, but we were shocked when another employee tested positive for marijuana two months after using it briefly with some friends on a vacation. That person abstained for over eight weeks and it still wasn’t enough time to get all of the THC out of their fat stores. It’s crazy that cannabis can be detected in peoples’ urine for 30 days or longer. I had a friend in college who could test negative for cannabis a week after his last dose, but that’s because he was lean and worked out constantly.

When I played tackle football in high school, I sustained a large number of physical injuries during those four years.

While I figured most of this damage would be short term, a lot of it has sustained itself for the long term within my body.

My left wrist is damaged and causes me pain if I don’t use a brace whenever I’m working at a computer for long periods of time. This is particularly daunting when you rely on computer work like I do to support yourself. It would be a lot of fun to get out on my inline rollerblades again, but the fear of falling and breaking my wrist is a real concern. I wouldn’t be able to work at the same rate that I’m required to with my job. That could be a serious detriment to my survival. As far as managing the pain from my past injuries, I consume a lot of over-the-counter pain medications like acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Beyond that, I also consume a lot of CBD products and cannabis topicals that include creams and skin patches. These give me localized pain relief wherever I decide to place the patch or skin cream. If my knee is giving me a lot of trouble, I can put a cannabis patch directly on the skin over my knee, thus giving me instant relief right where I need it. With cannabis topicals, you don’t have to wait for the THC to process through your bloodstream. I still enjoy using cannabis inhalation products, however I can’t imagine going a week without having cannabis topicals in my medicine cabinet as well.
