The customer didn't speak any english

I work for a cannabis dispensary that is located two miles from a huge International airport.

There are always people in the cannabis shop that are not from this country and many of them do not speak english.

We have several Spanish speaking employees and one employee that speaks french. We do our best to try to effectively communicate with each one of our customers. Sometimes that task can be difficult from time to time. On Monday afternoon I was working at the cannabis shop and a customer came into the store for the first time. The customer wanted edibles, but that’s all I could tell. The lady stood in front of the edibles display and she was trying to point to the items that she wanted. There is about 10 ft distance between the counter and the area where the animals are kept. It was difficult for me to understand which one the woman wanted. I finally decided to let her move to the area behind the counter so she could pick out the products that she wanted. My boss saw that I was letting a customer into the employee area and she was very unhappy. After I charged the customer and the woman left, I told my boss that she did not speak any english. My boss told me that I am not allowed to let anyone behind the counter, even if I can’t understand what they are saying. I think it is a silly rule, but I have to do what the boss tells me to or risk losing my job.

The mailbox wasn't damaged but the pole was crushed

Last Thursday, we had two inches of rain and it fell in a short amount of time.

I was working at the marijuana dispensary.

I usually work as a delivery driver on Thursdays and Friday nights. Saturdays are my day off and Sunday and Monday I work in the front of the store. When I deliver on Thursday and Friday nights, I usually make a heap of cash. The customers like to tip well, especially when there is a lot of rain and miserable weather. I don’t mind driving around in the rain and fog, especially when there are really great tips and nice customers. I make front door deliveries when there is rain. There’s no way I would get good tips if I made that customers walk out to the street when it was pouring. When I was working on Thursday, I went to a residential address that’s up on the hill. I parked near the bottom, because I was worried about sliding and slipping. I have a manual car and on the hill it can be difficult to get into gear when the road is slippery and wet. I had trouble this time and I ended up crashing into a customer’s mailbox. The lady was very upset, even when I offered to replace the pole the next day. The mailbox wasn’t damaged at all, and the pole would have been very easy to replace. The lady said she was going to call her insurance company instead. I would have been happy to buy a replacement pole and do the work.

Making cannabis deliveries

I only make cannabis deliveries so I can smoke for free.

The old expression goes “don’t get high on your own supply” but that was all I ever did! I didn’t care about running a business or turning a profit, I just wanted to move enough product so that I could get high for free.

It was the same thing as having a job, only instead of getting a paycheck I got free cannabis. Considering how much weed I smoke everyday, this requires a lot of work! The guy I work for is a local dealer named Ben, who runs a small farm and uses me as a delivery guy. Ben’s operation is illegal and cash-based, so neither one of us worry too much about paying taxes. Every weekend I spent a few hours making cannabis deliveries throughout this rural area, and in return I got a nice fat sack of homegrown weed. Another bonus is that I get to spend a lot of time driving, which really calms me. As a matter of common sense I never get high while I am making my cannabis deliveries. I need to stay sharp, since technically I am committing a crime I need to make sure I don’t get pulled over by the cops, who would find my felony quantity of cannabis in the trunk. Since I am a good driver I never had any issues, and always made my cannabis runs on time. Some of the customers would even tip me, in cash or in cannabis, and that always made my day.

Why I want to add a smokers lounge to the cannabis shop

When I was having a few drinks with my old college buddy Hector, he inadvertently gave me a great idea.

As we were catching up on old times, Hector mentioned how he used to have a drinking problem but managed to get it under control. This was humorous because he said it over a cocktail! His point was that once or twice a week he would go out and have a social drink, but he never kept alcohol in his home. I realized that this was a brilliant insight, because if it’s true for booze, it must also be true for cannabis. How many people out there enjoy smoking a little cannabis once in a while, but don’t feel comfortable having weed in their home? This led me to start planning my new smokers lounge, to adjoin my cannabis dispensary. I believe a lot of folks would enjoy stopping by to enjoy cannabis for a while before heading home. These are people that otherwise would never come to the cannabis dispensary, because they don’t want to make a big purchase. My shop carries 18 different premium cannabis strains, blends, and hybrids, so offering single pre-rolled joints would be a huge seller! Some people go to a gas station to buy one cigarette, so why wouldn’t people want to come to a smokers lounge to enjoy a single joint of Purple Haze, OG Kush, Bubble Gum Fire, Sativa Supreme, or Acapulco Gold? Thanks to Hector I think I have discovered an untapped region of the cannabis market, and a great way to boost profits.

Late nights at the downtown cannabis dispensary

When I first started I was assigned to a remote, suburban shop.

  • It was pretty boring, but the hours were good.

When the chance for a promotion came up, I put in for a transfer to the downtown dispensary. This was the biggest cannabis shop in the city, with huge sales and a large sales team. I thought it would be more exciting – and it is – but the hours are difficult. Since the store hours are based on activity and sales, the suburban store closed at 10 p.m. but the downtown location is open until 4 a.m. Do you know what kind of people come into a cannabis dispensary at that time of night? It is a cast of colorful and crazy characters, consumed with cannabis, and I would enjoy them a lot more if it wasn’t so late. Eventually my body clock will adjust, because for the next few months I am the closing manager for the cannabis dispensary. That means I close the place down every night, and make sure all the other cannabis dispensary employees are clocked out and gone before I can leave. I usually don’t get home from work until 5 a.m. On the other hand I don’t have to clock in at the cannabis shop until 8 p.m., so I have my days and evenings free. My favorite customer is a local homeless man named Jerry, who panhandles for change all day and then spends it on cannabis at night. Jerry is the type of customer that comes to the cannabis shop at 3:30 a.m.
